Milk pumps

If you want to breast feed but would also like a bit of freedom to go out in the evening or hand a night feed over the your partner, then a milk pump is a must have. It’s also recommended if your milk supply is low as it can help increase it. Mothers of premature babies will also be familiar with milk pumps as medical staff will encourage expressing milk to give to their little one as it’s the best thing for them.

There are a few on the market but our favourite is the compact mini electric one from Medela. It’s easy to use, easy to transport, very comfortable and not too noisy, and the benefit of being electric is that you won’t get cramp in your hand drying to manually pump. You can literally just relax an let it do it’s thing.

Nipple cream

nipplecreamBreast feeding is the most natural thing in the world, but no matter what professionals say, it can really hurt and cause damage to your sensitive nipples. However this is only in the early days and if you use good quality nipple cream from the offset you’ll wonder what all the fuss is about. The best that we’ve found is lansinoh which you can use before breast feeding and after and no need to wipe it off. Lansinoh also do very handy expressed milk bags for freezing.
